Cut-Scene: Of Glaring Gates #2

Another cut-scene of my latest fic, Of Glaring Gates. I  actually intended to let the gate-guarding elf speak, too, but then with Elrond getting more screen-time, it did not fit anymore.

"It is true.", the elf who had just been violently relieved of his door-guarding duty spoke up nervously.  

"I saw him glare at the the gate, your Majesty." His voice wavered and he twitched nervously as the attention turned towards him. 

Firmly averting his eyes from the onlookers, he tried his best to concentrate only on his king. Something that was easier said then done, when the the entire house of Fëanor was focused solely on you.

But this elf was determined to see it through. He had once fought side by side with his king against Morgoth's armies, after all. 

Compared to that, giving a report about Fëanor should be a piece of cake, right?

Right.

The guard violently squashed down his sudden urge to run off in order to challenge the Destroyer and forced himself to continue.

"It was really fierce. And then - and then he just raised his hand and...and..."

His voice broke as he started sobbing uncontrollably.  

So much about seeing it through. 

But it really had been way too scary.

Turgon patted his shoulder awkwardly. "Fret not, my friend. You have done well in speaking up. I am very proud of your courage."

He subtly signaled two of his subjects to lead the distraught guard away.

Fëanor snorted in disbelieving amusement.   

Really, elves these days were just too delicate.  

You shatter one gate and they start crying.
